The idea for the Kyoto Sofa Bed was born thousands of miles from home — in a quiet machiya townhouse tucked in the backstreets of Kyoto.
I had come to Japan to reset. London life was fast, my flat was cramped, and my mind was cluttered. But in Kyoto, everything felt different. The spaces were small, but never felt lacking. The furniture was minimal, yet full of soul. Every object had a purpose — and nothing was rushed.
I slept on a simple futon laid over tatami floors. No springs, no bulk — just balance. Each morning I’d fold it away, and the room transformed completely. That quiet ritual stayed with me.
When I returned home, the contrast hit hard. My space felt chaotic. My furniture — oversized, awkward, designed for anything but ease. That’s when I knew: I didn’t just want a new sofa bed. I wanted to create one — one that captured the calm, the intentionality, and the quiet elegance of Kyoto.
And so, I designed it.
The Kyoto Sofa Bed is my answer to modern living — a piece that respects space, adapts with grace, and invites you to slow down.
It’s more than a sofa. It’s a philosophy you can sit on.
